Refuse Disposal and Recycling

Links
The London Borough of Sutton introduced revised arrangements for the collection of household waste and recyclable waste on 1 April 2017. The arrangement of the bins in Ormsby is intended to assist residents with the Council’s waste separation requirements. The main bin cupboard is behind the right hand doors adjacent to the visitors’ parking area and the recycling point is beneath the pergola opposite the main cupboard.
There are four types of bin on site for the following categories of waste:
-
general household waste which is not appropriate for recycling
-
cardboard and paper for recycling
-
plastics, cans, glass and cartons for recycling
-
garden waste such as leaves and grass and hedge trimmings
The large metal bins in the main bin cupboard are intended for all general non-recyclable household waste including shredded paper and food waste. The contractors will not remove anything that doesn’t constitute normal household waste. Excluded items include furniture (however small), electrical and gas appliances (however small - and including any electronic equipment), builders waste etc etc. It is the responsibility of individual residents to make appropriate arrangements for the removal of excluded items and to pay any necessary charges. Failure to comply with this will be regarded as fly tipping for which the Council can impose substantial financial penalties. The question to ask yourself is would I or could I put this item in my kitchen pedal bin?. If not then almost certainly it is not normal household waste. Details of the local authority’s main reuse and recycling centre where larger items should be taken can be found from the side link. The local authority can also assist with the collection and disposal of bulky items such as furniture and kitchen appliances; use the second side link.
The 30 litre black plastic bins with blue lids located to the left of the pergola are exclusively for paper and cardboard which will need to be folded, compressed or otherwise stamped on in order the fit into the bins. Plastic bags and shredded paper are also excluded from these bins and must instead be placed in the metal bins used for normal household rubbish inside the main bin cupboard.
The two large metal recycling bins under the pergola are for all other appropriate recycling. This includes plastic bottles, tubs, trays and containers; glass jars and bottles; cans, tin foil and aerosols; and liquid food and drink cartons. It does NOT include plastic bags and film; hard plastics or polystyrene.
The green plastic bins located to the right of the pergola are for the exclusive use of the gardener for leaves, grass cuttings etc. Ormsby has to pay for having the green bins emptied and obviously we do not want to pay for any rubbish that can otherwise go in one of the other bins for free. Residents must not use the green plastic bins at any time.
